Not to Wear on a Date: The Top 10 “No-No’s”

Finding a person that you find attractive and interesting can be difficult especially if you are busy with work and school.  Once you find someone you want to go on a date with you may find it difficult to express the way feel properly, for help with this, you can take advantage of websites with free chatrooms to practice some of your best lines on.  The last thing you want to do while on a date says the wrong thing and find you have ruined your chances before your date has had the chance to get to know you.

While finding the right person you want to date can be difficult and stressful, but when you find that perfect person and they agree to go out on a date with you now, you have to worry about what to wear.  For your date to go smoothly, you want to make a great first impression and what you wear is an integral part of how your date is going to view you.  Listed below are the top 10 items you should never wear on a date.

1. Wrinkled Clothes

Nothing says I don’t care about this date or your opinion than showing up in wrinkled clothing.  The fact that you cannot properly take care of your clothing says a lot about your personality and is a definite turnoff for your date.  While you don’t have to be an ironing master simply taking your clothes out of the dryer and hanging them up will eliminate most wrinkles.  You can also take your clothing to the dry cleaner, and for a few dollars they can properly press your clothing and show that you care about not only how you look but how you feel about your date.

2. Dirty Clothes

This is just simply disgusting.  No one should ever go out in public in dirty clothing let alone when they are going out on a date with someone.  This should not even need to be on a list, let alone the second item on the list, but it is here for a reason people show up on dates in dirty clothing.  The fact that you are comfortable showing up for your date in clothing that is dirty shows that you are quite frankly lazy and who wants to continue dating someone lazy.  If you choose to show up on your date in clothing that has visible stains or dirt don’t be surprised if you date comes up with some excuse to leave before the appetizer gets to the table.

3. Clothes that are Too Tight

What not to wear on a date: Anything that is too tight

While you may be extremely fit and want to show off how good you look, clothing that is too tight is offputting to many people not to mention uncomfortable.  While you may be comfortable with your body wearing clothing that is too tight can make you seem nervous or uncomfortable if you have to keep fighting and to pull at the clothing.  If you plan to eat a meal, you may find that the tight clothing you looked good in at the beginning of your date is now making you look bloated now that you have eaten a meal.  Tight clothing can also send the wrong message to your date and give the impression you want attention for all the wrong reasons.  Do yourself a favor and make a good impression by wearing clothing that is form fitting but not too tight.

4. Sweatpants

While sweatpants are comfortable, they are best for sitting at home on the couch watching a good movie.  Sweatpants can look sloppy and give the “I just rolled out of bed” impression to your date.  Once again on a date, you want to make a good impression and show that you took the time to get ready for your date to make them feel important.

5. Flip-Flops

Unless your date is taking you to the beach, keep the flip-flops at home.  While flip-flops may be comfortable, they are not what you want to wear on a date.  Depending on where you are going for your date a nice pair of sandals may be alright to wear, but flip-flops are not.  Flip-flops leave your feet completely exposed, and they can get dirty which is not the impression you want to convey on your date.  Also, there are many people who do not like flip-flops so if you are trying to make a good impression leave the flip-flops by the front door and choose a nice pair of casual shoes instead.

6. Crocs

I’m just going to say it, “Crocs are ugly!”  No matter what color they are or what you attach to them. I’m baffled when and how these shoes became so popular and why people who own them love them so much but having said that please do not wear Crocs on a date.  I understand that many people swear they are like pillows for your feet, but I wouldn’t wear a pillow on a date either.  While it is important to be comfortable on your date so you can enjoy the company of the one you are with, there are limits to which comfort should go, and Crocs cross that limit.  If you love Crocs that is fine just keep them at home.  On a date, you want to put your best foot forward, and there is no way to do that if your foot is wearing a Croc.

7. Camouflage

Unless you are in the military and are required to wear a camouflage uniform, leave the camouflage clothing at home.  While camouflage is a popular fashion trend, it has no place when you are on a date.  It is best to save the camouflage clothing for a day with the guys. Or, if your date goes the way, you hope maybe the two of you will go camping someday. Then you can crack out the camouflage wear on that occasion but not on your first dates. If you enjoy your camouflage clothing as well as other prints you can express your passion for colors and prints on a website made especially for sharing your ideas and inspiring others.

8. Baggy Clothing

Baggy or extremely loose clothing should never be worn on a date as it sends the signal that you are disinterested in your date.  While this may not be the case, it is the impression your date will get.  You may also send the impression that there is something wrong with your body and you are trying to hide it.  Baggy or extremely loose clothing may be comfortable but it can look sloppy, and when you are on a date you want to make a good impression, not a bad one.  There is nothing wrong with baggy clothing; it has its place and time, but that time and place are not on a date.  Do yourself a favor and when you choose your outfit for your date make sure it is comfortable, but not sloppy looking so leave the baggy clothing at home.

9. Too Much Perfume or Cologne

While it is understandable that you want to smell good on your date, it is important not to overdo it.  Just because you love the aroma of your favorite scent does not mean that your date will.  If you put on too much fragrance, it can be like walking into a wall of scent.  You also do not know if your date has allergies or sensitivities to perfumes or colognes. The last thing you want to do is send your date into a coughing fit. So, either use in moderation if at all.

10. Socks with Sandals

What not to wear on a date: Socks with Sandals

Nothing says I’m channeling my inner 70 year old than wearing socks with sandals, especially when they are black crew socks and sandals.  I’m not sure who decided this was a good idea, but it is no way to dress for a date or ever for that matter.  If it is too cold to wear sandals, then don’t.  There is no reason quite frankly ever to wear socks with sandals, if you need to wear socks then do so in shoes.

Above is a list of items you should never wear on a date, so what should you wear on a date?  It is important to wear clothing that is clean, comfortable and looks good.  As discussed above you want to make a good impression so make sure your clothing choice is both clean and pressed so you do not give off the impression that you are disinterested or just don’t care. Lastly, you want to make sure you look good in the clothing you choose.  You want the clothing to be tailored but not too tight, comfortable but not baggy so that it accentuates your body.  It is important not to wear wild prints or shirts with sayings or large logos on them. While this may seem like a lot of information it is simple and listed below are some clothing suggestions that are appropriate for going on a date.
